These are not your average balloon animals, and they are not your average party balloons. Hell, they aren't even extraordinary animal or party balloons! These are lovely, magical sculptures from the mind of Janice Lee Kelly. The floating art is the kind of creative design that elicits well-deserved oohs and aahs. More than just Friday fun, how cool would these be at your next birthday party?
Kelly is a fine artist with a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Once she left college, she began a career in photography and then in architecture. Eventually she began what would be a fifteen-year gig: owning her own design-savvy retail store in Newport, Rhode Island. Somehow in that role, all the forces, forms, and designs aligned. Kelly recognized bigger possibilities than just 'party balloons' for events. Her vision led to what can only be described as Kelly's personal artform.
Kelly moved to a neighborhood in Narragansett Bay, one with beach cottages set on a salt marsh. It was in this place that she started developing gravity-defying, other-worldly sculptures from balloons. Once a piece is installed, she documents its life - movements through time - in photography.
Obviously, you can't keep something like this a secret for very long. Just over 3 years ago, Kelly launched Float. On that website, you can view her installations, and find contact information so that you can have her create some real magic for your special event or project.
Okay, I'm just gonna say it: How fun is that?
